Liskeard News - Best Beer Garden
free WiFi, Folk Night and live music gigs

It's summer, we're in Cornwall, and we have the best live music and easy access to Looe, Polperro and Plymouth if you want the city. There's still no need to shiver whilst smoking. The award winning Barley Sheaf Beer Garden is the best Smoking Solution in Liskeard, with dual weather beating patio heaters. And inside, you can utilise the free WiFi and surf the internet over a pint or two.

Function Room news - The opening of the newly refurbished Function Room on Wednesday 4th March 2009 was a huge success, with touring folk act Jackie Oates and guests selling out. The Function Room is available for hire and suitable for wedding receptions, birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, anniversaries and corporate business meetings.
Next Folk Night is Wednesday 15th July 2009 with Robert Brown. Details at http://www.myspace.com/barleyfolk

Barley Sheaf landlord Gary Swift and landlady Emma Hill

The Barley Sheaf in Church Street has a rich history as Liskeard's most bohemian pub and one of Cornwall's leading live music venues. The Barley's unique ambience and off Parade location has made it popular with locals, musicians and students alike.

Since taking over as landlord of the Barley Sheaf in April 2005, seasoned entertainer Gary Swift, aka Swifty, has striven to enhance the live music experience. Swifty's paramour Emma Hill is also an experienced musician, teaching drums and playing with indie rock trio The Hulas. Click here for drum lessons.

Gone are the solo artists and backing track duos of the past, replaced with the cream of Cornwall & Devon's live bands, and an impressive roster of international touring bands and chart sensations of yesteryear. The stage has been extended a foot forward and raised six inches, and the Barley boasts a house vocal PA with bass bin and monitors, state of the art LED lighting rig, and the live music being fed to the Beer Garden.

As well as the regular Thursday night entertainment and regular Jam Sessions, the Barley also has some weekend gigs, mainly around Bank Holidays. The regular fixtures remain - free pool table on Monday & Tuesday, League Skittles on Tuesday, League Darts on Friday and League Pool and Quiz Night on Sunday.

£50 Prize Money at Quiz Night every Sunday!
£25 first prize, £15 second and £10 third prize for the Barley's Sunday Funday Quiz Night. Plus a bag o' peanuts for best team name. Hosted by the titillating hi brow/low brow mono brow Paul Program.

Casque Marked Real Ales on tap are St Austell Breweries' Hicks Special Draft aka HSD (5%), the award winning Tribute (4.2%) and IPA (3.4%). For the Mixtio fans, popular black ale Black Prince (4%) will be returning to the pumps shortly.

Although not strictly a wine bar, the Barley offers an impressive Baby Bottle wine list, including Blossom Hill California Red, White & White Zinfandel Rose, Jacob's Creek Semillon Chardonnay & Shiraz Cabernet, Oxford Landing and Wilson's Creek.

Single malt whiskeys include Glenmorangie (10 yrs), The Balvenie (12 yrs), Lagavulin (16 yrs) and The Macallan (18 yrs).

Moet champagne on ice is available for special occasions, and Cocktails are available on request.

The pub jukebox is a digital hard drive based system with a database of 30,000 mp3 songs that are continually updated. Features every Top Forty hit single since 1952 and more. 5 plays for £1.

The Barley Sheaf serves alcohol until 11pm from Sunday through to Wednesday, and until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You are allowed to drink up for 45 minutes only. The beer garden will close at half past and the front door must be closed at 12:45 for legal reasons.
